The KAMRA inlay helps restore near vision and reduce the constant frustrations of reading glasses for those with presbyopia or blurry near vision. By providing a natural range of vision you can see — from near to far. It also offers long-term performance to help you continue to enjoy clear vision over time, even as presbyopia progresses.
How Does KAMRA Work?
The KAMRA inlay is a smooth procedure that only takes about 15-20 minutes. The surgeon inserts the KAMRA inlay which is smaller and thinner than a contact lens, into the first few layers of the eye known as the cornea. The inlay creates a pinhole effect that focuses the light coming through your eye and restores your near vision while maintaining your distance vision.
KAMRA is a simple out patient procedure requiring no stitches.
Common KAMRA Questions
Is the KAMRA inlay right for me?
At your free KAMRA consultation we will discuss if the KAMRA inlay is the best option for you according to the health of your eye. However, if you are tired of searching for your reading glasses and depending on them with every activity there is a high possibility the KAMRA is right for you.
How does the KAMRA inlay work?
The KAMRA inlay sits in the first few layers of the eye known as the cornea. Smaller and thinner than a contact lens, the inlay is a mini-ring with an opening – or pinhole – in the center. This pinhole allows only focused light to enter your eye. The KAMRA inlay is placed in only one of your eyes, allowing you to see up close, while maintaining your distance vision in both eyes. Your non-KAMRA eye is left untouched. Working together, the eyes allow you to see near to far. This is unlike monovision laser vision correction, which corrects one eye for near and one eye for distance and does not last over time.
Will I ever need reading glasses again?
It is important to understand there may be times when additional magnification is needed for small print to see in dim light or to perform a near task for an extended period of time.
Can the KAMRA inlay be removed?
Our doctors have not had to remove any KAMRA inlays from our patients. However, yes the KAMRA inlay can be removed. After removal vision generally returns to the level the patient had prior to the implantation of the KAMRA inlay. This does not guarantee that your vision will return to exactly what it was before the surgery or that your eye will not have permanent damage.
