MICHELE PALMERI, LASIK COORDINATOR
Michele has worked with Doctor Daniel L. Sambursky and other physicians at the Laser Eye Center of the Southern Tier for over twelve years. In addition to the extensive training she has received in the field of LASIK, Michele holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Record Administration from Ithaca College. She also took graduate courses in Health Education at Cortland and was a Health Educator for Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network for two years. When you arrive at our office, we will give you an extensive evaluation prior to scheduling your LASIK procedure. Dr. Sambursky will provide your eye exam, and then you will have an informational session with Michele to discuss everything you need to know about LASIK surgery. You can expect to be at the Laser Eye Center for an hour to an hour and a half. Prior to your visit you should be aware that if you wear contact lenses, you should keep them out of your eyes for two weeks, especially if you plan to have LASIK shortly after your evaluation. If you are just coming in for an evaluation and information and you cannot, or choose not to leave your contacts out for two weeks prior to the exam, then we ask that you do not wear them to your appointment. We cannot test your eyes with contacts in. Once you decide to have your LASIK procedure, you will need to leave your contacts out for two weeks if they are soft, and three weeks if they are hard or gas permeable contacts. During your appointment, Michele will explain why a patient is nearsighted, farsighted and/or has astigmatism and what we have to do to correct that. Then she explains the different procedures available: blade or blade free, and the advantages and disadvantages of both. Once you’ve made the decision to have LASIK, Michele will cover the procedure in more detail and will show you the laser room where Dr. Sambursky and his team will perform your procedure. She will also give you any pre-op prescriptions and instructions that you will need, and will answer any questions. Michele will schedule your LASIK procedure and you will be sent home with a consent form to review.
